His voice was warm and deep and something about it made her instantly unwind. God, the cold was making her stupid. Donna caught a glimpse of a carseat in the backseat and made a judgment call. A serial killer probably wouldn’t have a carseat.
“I’d appreciate it,” her voice sounded small and meak to her own ears but luckily he heard her because he continued towards her, breaking into an endearing little jog, opening the hood with an effortlessness that made her frostbitten fingers a little bitter.
“I’m Roy,” he said, holding out his hand.

“I don’t know,” Aang says, walking across the room to plop himself on Sokka’s desk. Where once his legs would swing back and forth, he’s now too tall. “The War’s over, people might like to celebrate, if you get what I’m saying.” His eyebrows wiggle suggestively, and Katara feels her face flush.
“People should celebrate without worrying they might have a baby, is my point.” Katara says, her voice slightly shrill.

Zuko was only eleven when he met a strange girl that his uncle had taken in.
Toph was only seven when her home was taken over, only to be whisked away to another nation.
And Iroh now had a tiny girl with jaded eyes under his care and protection, all for the dying wish of his late son.
In other words, a ward is adopted into the royal family of the Fire Nation. This changes everything but nothing at the same time.

“Who… who are you?” Aang repeated intensely at Kuzon’s answering silence. Katara looked back at Kuzon to see him smiling, all teeth. It wasn’t the playful grin she always saw on Aang’s face. It was something sharper, distorted; so unlike Aang that it only terrified her further.
“I’m Kuzon,” he answered simply. Aang’s face only grew more bewildered as his own voice echoed back at him. “You don’t remember me?”

Summary
Avatar Aang inherited a world at peace, his predecessor had prevented a war many thought inevitable. As such he has grown up carefree and happy to let the world enjoy the peace Roku had won. This attitude however has consequences for his training. After fleeing his waterbending master in the Northern Water Tribe, Aang finds himself joining a trade convoy to the Southern Water Tribe in search of a new master. The woman he finds makes him question his teachings, his duty and the honour of the Avatar and his own people. Under Katara's teaching Aang will be forced to live in the space between duty and desire.
