  2. Summary

Wherein the Dark Urge discovers the truth behind her memory loss, goes on a journey of self discovery that ends up being more of a trail of corpses, and decides to take over the world.

Everything can be read as a standalone, and everything is in chronological order.

Where to start reading is up to you:
1: Pre-canon Dark Urge. One-shots prior to the longfics are pre-tadpole and pre-canon stories. Expect the usual atrocities.

2: Ruin's tale: The two longfics are an arc with a 1st POV of post-tadpole Dark Urge. Begin with Under the Black Hand, which is an Act 3 revision (starts off where you think, does not end where you think) and is the only story during the events of the game. Closing the Fist picks up one month post-canon (how actually will you take over the world? it's complicated).

3: Gortash's tale: POV third, picking up on trauma from House of Hope and continues the post-canon journey, starts with Down Comes the Claw.

4: Multi-POV (Minthara/Ruin/others): Alternating POV 1st and third, The Grip of Steel starts 1 year post-game. This longfic brings this tale to its finale.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Sizing each other up on the outskirts of the goblin stronghold, the three men had the exact same thought at the exact same time.
    These two are bloody morons.
It was followed quickly by a second simultaneous thought.
Better use that to my advantage.
After that, their internal monologues diverged somewhat.

    Summary

He glances through the window, where Valas is surely sitting in the garden. “What if I passed it on to him?”

Jaheira could answer with logic: how he’d given away the dark essence in his soul when they destroyed Bhaal’s throne, how there should have been nothing left of the murder lord in him when Valas was conceived. She could answer with the truth: how she couldn’t begin to guess how divine blood flows through family lines. She could even answer with what he wants to hear: of course you haven’t, you’d know by now, just look at his sweet heart, the understanding in his eyes.

But she answers with what matters. “If you did, it won’t be stronger than what you’ve chosen to pass on. The same way it was for you, everything you gained from Gorion’s heart.”

He’s Bhaal’s second chance. He’ll kill more, than the one who came before, kill better, carve his devotion into the world’s flesh. He'll lead his temple, share his dream, shake bloody hands with the rest of the Dead Three.

His name is Valas DeVir, and he’ll become death itself.

“My assassin,” he says. “My ally, my equal, my heart. Soon we’ll be as powerful as gods.”

    Summary

What if a younger less murdery Durge bathes the handsome upstart Enver Gortash, and, dare I say, makes him a better man?

Before the betrayal at Avernus. Before the resurrection of Bhaal. A canon-bending story that attempts to rewrite fate.

“Enver, do you ever wonder what life would be like if I was never born with this urge and you were never sold to the devil?”

    “No.”

    “Never?”

“What is the point of considering such a thing? It’s atrocious what’s happened to me, yes, but look at me now. I have overcome. You cannot forge steel without fire. There is no greatness to be found in a simple life.”

    Summary

In which Durge retraces his steps from the domination of the Elder Brain back to his awakening on the Nautiloid, and faces the many sins he committed along the way. Fortunately, he has someone by his side who is more than happy to remind him.

    ---

Bhaal’s face was replaced with Cyril’s reflection in the blood pool. The tiefling laid flat on his back and wept. A divine resurrection, for no other reason than to please him. The slimy little tyrant would live, and be the last soul alive in the whole of Faerun. The feelings of happiness, companionship, and lust flooded back to him, held back by the levees of disgust he had used to contain them. They would be together, until the bitter end of the world.

Cyril gathered himself and stood, walking over to his lover’s corpse, Enver’s corpse. A hint of terror sunk behind his eyes. He had to get this right. It meant everything. He knelt beside him, looking at his crushed-in face and now stagnant stab wound. His hands shook as he placed them on Enver’s chest.

    Te curo.

Now was not the time for words. His monstrous lover had fed him heinous lies and called them the whole truth.

Amazing push-pull between Gortash and Embrace Dark Urge (Cyril) post-canon

    Summary

Back in the day, when Enver Gortash couldn’t even imagine becoming an archduke, he was little more than a salon curiosity – a name whispered with interest, a man discussed far more than he was taken seriously.

Intriguing enough that the Sharrans decided to send Shadowheart – probably the only woman who didn’t fantasize about him – not only to fall into his arms, but to find out what, exactly, was hiding beneath the ambition.

"Who do you serve? Is it Myrkul? Loviatar? Bane?" His mouth against her neck made it so difficult to think rationally.

"You came here to test me," his voice was rough, lower than before, stripped of its earlier polish. “That was the plan, wasn’t it, High Priestess?”

She should have answered. Should have lied.
