    Summary

Across the street, the driveway of 402 was bathed in the thin, slanting light of a late-autumn morning. And Rick was out there.

Daryl’s breath hitched, just once, a mechanical stutter in his chest that he didn't acknowledge.

Rick was wrestling with a lawnmower, the old red push-mower he refused to replace despite the pristine, self-driving machines the other neighbors used. He'd started in a heavy flannel - Daryl had watched it come off twenty minutes in, flung over the porch railing like a shed skin - and stripped down to a t-shirt that had probably been white once, years ago, but was now gray with age and washed thin, the sleeves cut off unevenly to expose tanned, corded muscle. His breath was fogging in short, hard bursts. He looked... Daryl searched for the word, rolling it around his mind like a smooth stone, tasting the shape of it. Golden. He looked golden.

A hunter learns the difference between a trap and a cage very early. A trap is what you use when the animal doesn't know it's dying yet. A cage is what you build when you've decided to keep it alive. This is a story about a cage.

Stiles never meant to use his binoculars for anything but the force of good, but that’s probably how a lot of villains start out. The road to Hell and all that.

But honestly, if the Universe didn’t want him to spy on his neighbours, it would have told Hottie McScowlface across the yard to buy a set of curtains when he first moved in.
Or to work out with clothes on.
Or to take his weekly conquests to another apartment for sexy times - one with curtains or without any windows at all.

    Thank God, it didn't.

It was "Witch Weekly", of all people and organizations, the first to notice and comment on The Boy Who Lived’s absence from the ranks of first years at Hogwarts. The magazine went on to elucubrate that the young hero was studying at a foreign school, possibly Beauxbatons or Holzschuhkäse.

Everyone's heard of the Kelvin Incident. The same can't be said for the Massacre of Tarsus IV, or even the name James T. Kirk. But for every two things that change, at least one remains the same.

The thing people always forget is that it was a Vulcan ship that reached Tarsus IV first.
