Summary

beautifully written, immersive storytelling, left me crying more times than I could count. funny banter, amazing dialogue, and fucking heart wrenching. it made me cry so hard i had a headache for the rest of the day. i read this and cried myself to sleep, read it, cried for the rest of the morning.

If it weren’t for the cramped space of the booth, for the rigidity of his bones and muscles after standing in the cold for so long, Satoru would have sunk to his knees in gaiety.
“But sir, we are obliged to tell you—you can only stay for a few weeks, at most—“
“Yes, yes, a few weeks, I am aware. Thank you.”
He was only ever in pursuit of the permission to set foot in there. The duration of his stay, that is another matter—he is certain he will coax them into extending it further.
“Then it is settled, sir. You are welcome to come whenever you please.” There is kindness in her voice, she’s smiling.
“Your presence will cheer sir tremendously.”
Suguru’s reality—it will never be this. This place and this room, confined in a sanatorium in the highest of mountains. He will only ever belong to their home, to his life in Tokyo, to everything that awaits his return.
