Out of blue, you instinctively understood what was happening, like a person who quickly pulls back their hand after accidentally touching fire.

While trying not to die, not to destroy the timeline (any more than they already have), and not to freak out when they see their younger selves making questionable choices, Bucky and John have to find a way to get back home. Or at least survive long enough to make sarcastic jokes and passive-aggressive comments about superhero fashion and unresolved traumas.
Because, honestly, fixing time wasn't in the terms of the contract.
