Michaela smells salty, like sweat, and sweet, like her flowery perfume. It’s moments like this which usually make Francesca retreat into the safety of her bedroom, away from Michaela and the bubbling, churning want that licks at her stomach. She’s wondered if it makes her a coward, time and again wondered it, most often on late nights when Michaela’s out with whoever and Francesca’s chosen the safety of her four small walls over the tantalizing danger spelled out by a half-drunk and criminally flirty Michaela. Maybe it does. But maybe that’s not the worst option. Better cowardice than – well, whatever this is.
