Summary
There was probably nothing anyone could have done to truly save Hwang In-ho, and the officer resented himself a little for ever trying.
“He’s one person! How hard can it be!” he shouted at the scrambling staff as they still failed locate the fucked up creature (despite the bodies-and-bodies it had left behind in its prowl around the maze looking for Gi-hun).
Keeping him alive at all had been an unacceptable risk.
Or, one where everything is pretty much the same but they’re inconvenienced by being soulmates.

Summary
Gi-hun smokes. But there's a reason In-ho doesn't.
Or, the game is no more. In-ho tries putting all his pain behind him and embracing his new life with Gi-hun by his side. Unfortunately, some old wounds still bleed from time to time. Some particular wounds come with cigarettes and scorching burns.
