There was a sudden intrusion into his ear in the form of the cold tip of the thermometer. TK yelped. “Mom. Seriously?”
“Sewiously?” echoed Jonah. At least someone was on TK’s side.
The thermometer emitted a shrill beep. “Seriously,” said his mother, removing it from his ear. “Almost a hundred and two. You’re not going anywhere except back to bed.”
“You should get out of here, Carlos, we don’t want you any more exposed than you already have been,” TK’s father said, one hand still on TK’s back, propping him up.
“Um. Yeah. Yes, sir,” Carlos said, setting Jonah down. He looked at TK with big, worried eyes. “I’ll vouch for you to Nancy. Feel better. Uh. Text me?”
“BYE CAWLOS I LOVE YOU,” squawked Jonah.
“Bye,” said TK faintly.
Seventeen-year-old TK thinks he and his friend Carlos might finally be ready to take their relationship to the next level, but a case of the flu, along with TK's lingering self-worth issues, may stand in their way.
