His mouth opens aimlessly – he chokes on his own breath before it will create sound.
At the sight of her lower lip starting to tremble, he nods again; quickly.
“You did well. You did so well.”

she thought his fate was to die and not loving her would fix it. in reality, not loving her killed him slowly inside in a way more torturous than drowning. in reality, his choice was always going to be to meet her, to save her, to love her. i love that at the center of this fic is this fact: even if he never remembered, he would have chosen to love her anyway.
