Summary
The Cloud Recesses Guest Lectures were held every three years for disciples between the ages of fifteen and eighteen. They had three purposes.
The first (and the reason it was hosted by the Lan) was to provide a shared baseline understanding of the core cultivation topics that underpinned every sect while not divulging clan-specific approaches.
The second was to create opportunities for friendships and alliances that would reduce the chance of war between the clans.
The third, and most important, was for the clans to replenish their bloodline by finding compatible mates with strong cultivation skills. In the last month of the lectures, challenges to test compatibility could be issued.
Wei Wuxian challenges Lan Wangji, sure that they are compatible mates. The Lan refuse to allow the Challenge.
They come to regret it.

“Is it your wedding day?”
Shane sputters. “Sorry?”
“The tuxedo,” she points out. “You look like you just got married.”
“Oh,” Shane says dumbly, glancing down at his rumpled suit. “No,” he adds.

Or the one where that one night in Vegas gets a little out of hand for Ilya and Shane and a marriage by accident could turn into one of convenience. And maybe, something more. -

Summary
What's the worst that could happen? What would happen if the worst happened? What's the most likely thing to happen? "I could eat something I'm allergic to and go into anaphylactic shock and die."
Leon will do one of those things Shane appreciates about him so much: ask a direct question. "Do you think that's a rational or an irrational fear?"
Heart racing in his chest, Shane will dig his fingernails into the meat of his thighs and say, "Well, I didn't die, obviously, but the other part. That did happen."
Shane Hollander has severe food allergies. Fortunately, his teammates don't know that. Unfortunately, his teammates don't know that.

Summary
Finally, something dawns on him, a way to handle two goals simultaneously. He’d seen Hollander’s mother flipping through papers rapidly when they first got here, seeming calm and in control and more than a little frightening in a way that made Ilya mildly glad he wasn’t one of the people responsible for a clipboard. If anyone can tell him if the long list of “Prohibited Items” he’d been sent in his email a few days ago is just standard practice for big shoots, it would be Yuna Hollander.
Or, hopefully, her son.
“Crazy we cannot even have peanut butter, eh?” He asks. “You also got giant list?”
Hollander stiffens, almost imperceptibly, and Ilya tilts his head, just slightly, confused, wondering if he’s stumbled somewhere unexpected.
(how ilya learns about shane's allergies) (and shane's sexual awakening tragically hits a speedbump in the process 😔)
