So, she takes his hand and vows to herself that she doesn’t care what she has to do. She will be the one to survive this—not him.

“Everyone knows,” Rafe rolls his eyes and crosses his arms. “She just has enough sense not to talk.”
A breeze passes them by and Kiara still can’t find something to say.
“She knows enough about me,” Rafe drawls out slowly, his eyes cold and unforgiving with the words he throws at Kiara. He doesn’t care that it turns her world upside down, that he takes away the innocence and empathy she carries for strangers she meets. She got herself in this situation trying to help the wrong person, and she’s found herself back in the same position. “I don’t have to tell her shit because she knows what she’s getting herself into. Not everyone is as pathetic and helpless are you are.”
She should’ve known that—fuck, she’d seen the Pogues crawl out of situations she had no idea they would be able to get out. As much as she tried to align herself with the Pogues, that was something she had a hard time doing—figuring it out.
They had no Plan B or Plan C; Pogues always had to make sure things worked out because there was no alternative. Life taught them resilience and survival. Hell, she’s heard those stories time and time again from her dad but it didn’t click until now. Kiara didn’t need to protect Sofia, the girl was fine.

“You’re a runaway, aren’t you?” He says, and doesn’t wait for Gon to answer. “It’s pretty clear you have nowhere to go. Now, that shouldn’t be any of my business, but I wasn’t lying to you earlier when I said you were talented. I think you have real potential, kid.”
“You think I could…be a thief?” Something occurs to him then, that he probably should’ve realized earlier. Or maybe he did, and just didn’t want to think about it then. “You guys are criminals, right?”
“We’re not just any common criminals,” Nobunaga says, seeming offended, except—he’s smiling a little, so he’s just pretending to be offended. “We’re the Spiders.”
