Will interrupts him again, “You’re high.” He sighs and looks back to the ceiling.
“Mmm yeah but m’not wrong.” Mike lets out a small breath of a whisper, “Pretty boy.”
Will shakes his head and playfully knocks Mike’s shoulder with his own, “You’re pretty too Mike.”
Mike’s eyes glisten, probably from the weed but maybe there’s something else there too. “You think so?”
“Can I tell you something? My painting, I want to explain.” Mike nods enthusiastically waiting for Will to continue. “Okay don’t interrupt me, let me get it all out then… yeah. Okay.” He lets out a sharp breath, “The painting, your shield is a heart and you’re leading the party into battle you know, cause you’re the heart.” He pauses to read Mike’s expression, he just looks high. “My heart.” it’s hardly a whisper.
Mike’s eyes frantically search Will’s face before he surges forward and presses his lips to Will’s. It’s soft, warm, and oh my god Mike is kissing Will. Will is kissing Mike.

Mike and Will reconnect after a short time of unanswered letters; their friendship takes a turn after getting high together. Mike spirals in his writing.

Summary
It was the summer after their first year in college, they had enrolled into NYU together, and to their surprise, both got accepted. They decided after a long freshman year, to come back to Hawkins to spend time with their families and the rest of the party. Joyce had officially moved into Hopper’s small cabin, she offered Will to stay in Jane’s old room, but the scars of that dreaded day when Jane passed were too much to bear. After he mentioned his mother's offer to Mike, Mike winced and immediately proposed the idea of Will staying at his house. Will begrudgingly agreed after contemplating his options, he didn’t want to be a bother, but he really wanted to be able to enjoy his summer.
Will was grateful Mike offered to have a long slumber party in his basement. At first, Will didn’t want him to have to miss out on being back in the comfort of his old room, but Mike insisted. Once Mike had an idea, he was set on making it happen. Will thought maybe after the school year being in an apartment together Mike would want space, but he didn’t. He wanted Will alongside him as always, making Will's heart stupidly bloom with excitement.

Summary
In the summer of 1989, the Byers family moves to Montauk, cutting short Mike and Will's last summer together before college. Certain he'll never see his friend again, Will confesses his love on their last night together, rocking Mike's world entirely. As the tear-filled goodbyes draw to a close, however, Mike is suddenly offered the unexpected opportunity to travel with the Byers family and help them move.
They have five days out of state together to address Will's confession, learn to communicate, and maybe, just maybe, say a few things they should have said all along.

Will sighs, resigned. He drops his hands. “Okay. Honestly?” He hesitates, then shrugs. “He was a bad kisser. And I just… couldn’t get excited around him. At all.”
The reaction is immediate and merciless. Dustin makes a dramatic gagging noise. El gasps like she’s been handed gossip gold. Lucas high-fives Max, shaking her hand in his.
Mike doesn’t say anything. He just watches Will, watches the way he shrugs it off, the way he laughs a little too loud, the way his ears go red.
Or, Will's new boyfriend is a bad kisser. Mike thinks it's a crime that no one has kissed Will properly. He's on a goal to change that, Carlton be damned.
