“Why did you have to come back?”
The words came out broken and slurred at the edges, dragged through alcohol and something much deeper. Half breath, half sob.
“I was fine!” He shouted suddenly, his voice cracking wide open, his hand lifting to point at him, finger shaking. “Do you hear me? I was fine. My life—” He sucked in air, tears starting to spill without permission. “My life was perfect. It is perfect, Louis. I have a son.” His voice broke on the word. “A son. Do you know that? No, of course you don’t. You don’t know anything, because you never called!”Louis stared at him, something unraveling in his expression, his own eyes glassy now, but he didn’t look away.
“I’ve got this… This little boy.” Harry went on, voice shaking harder now. “And he thinks I hung the moon for him.” A wet laugh slipped out, broken. “And I’ve got a boyfriend. Did you know that? No! A proper one, too. He loves me.” His voice faltered, just slightly. “He actually stayed.”
OR : Just two idiots who have spent ten years trying to convince themselves that friendship was enough.
