“He’s probably the most stubborn and petty person I’ve ever met.”
“Don’t you teach middle schoolers?”
“Yep!” Ryland was surprised Simon remembered that. “He’s worse.”
“Ouch.” Simon laughed and Ryland had to look down at his feet to make sure he didn't do something stupid like trip over his own shoelaces. Again. It was unfair how pretty Simon’s laugh was. “I think that might be the harshest thing I’ve ever heard you say.”
“Oh, there’s more where that came from.” Ryland spoke before his brain kicked back into gear. Fudgcicles. Him and his big mouth.
Simon swung around to stop Ryland in his tracks, looking up at him through dark eyelashes and the beginnings of a smile twisting his lips. He was so close, Ryland would swear he could feel Simon’s breath against his lips. “You promise?”

Colt finally got Ryland a job on set and it's been a lot of fun! He might get a little distracted by a certain stuntman sometimes, but that's fine. Simon is a good friend. On the other hand, Tom Ryder is a nuisance. -

Summary
“Good morning!” Grace waved, trying his best to project friendliness. He was adult enough to recognize that his smile was partly fueled by seeing the man jump at his voice.
“Good morning.” His voice was a deep baritone, maybe gruff if someone wanted to be uncharitable. He shoved his watch back into his pocket. “How are you?”
“I’m good.” Grace flicked his eyes down and back up just in time to watch the man’s shoulders inch up towards his ears, which were red at the tips. Cute. “And you?”
“Fine.”
“Substitute?” He recognized the company lanyard the guy’s ID hung from.
“Yeah.” The man ran his fingertips back and forth over the strap of his satchel, eyes darting to the speaker on the wall. Oh, he had heterochromia, how fascinating. “You?”
“Eighth grade science. Whatcha here for today?”
“Art.”

Simon has been through a lot. This job is probably going to put him through a lot more. Whatever. He can deal with it.
Grace has been through a lot. His job definitely puts him through a lot more, but he loves it too much to leave. It's fine! The universe trends toward entropy anyway.
This school year has a lot of potential. It's just waiting to be set in motion. -

Summary
The only reason he wasn’t certain he was dead was that he couldn’t imagine being in a coma in the afterlife. Hell was supposed to be endless suffering, and this wasn’t anywhere close to that. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was lightyears better than joining the fallen in the blood ocean. He wasn’t entirely sure what he thought about Heaven, especially with what he’d done for the promise of it after death. Simon hadn’t earned Heaven by anyone’s metric. Even if he had, the issue of his waning consciousness was still a deciding factor. Purgatory would be the closest to what he was experiencing. Except. How could he earn his forgiveness if he couldn’t even open his eyes?
It felt dangerous to call himself alive, even if it was in the caverns of his own mind.

Summary
It was a miracle that the man was alive, but every Eridian he asked confirmed that there was still a heartbeat in the stranger’s chest. It would take another miracle for him to wake up. The impenetrable sleep made treatment easier. However, Grace couldn’t shake his distrust in any kind of coma after condemning his crew to the stars. The longer he was unconscious, the less likely it was that he ever woke up again.
