“Do they know what, Dan,” Herbert snapped. “That we’re fugitives? That we were involved in two recent massacres, first degree arson, the collapse of an historic building, and the death of a cop? Of course not. Don’t be naïve.”
“No, no, I mean,” Dan huffed a breath, working up the wherewithal to be blunt. He watched Herbert from the corner of his eye. “Do they know you’re. You know. Gay.”

She raises her weapon, makes to stab Spock in the back. Without any sign of upset, Spock swiftly catches Ilaam by the wrist and holds fast.
Her smile turns into a grimace. She wrenches her arm away and stashes the weapon.
"I did not think you would understand. But take heart. You are not so easily influenced as your Captain."

The Enterprise crew is tasked with ferrying a high-ranking noble from her remote dominion to her betrothed's home planet. Tempestuous and bitter, Ilaam will do anything to squash her upcoming marriage and return home.

If there's one thing Dan has learned from Herbert West, it's that science is a many-headed hydra: answer any one question and a dozen more present themselves.
Such as why there's a bathtub in the basement filled with meat that wants him dead, and whether it's really a good thing that Herbert is apparently dating an old acquaintance from Switzerland.
Something is very badly wrong here.

Summary
Charles and Erik met in Haifa, Israel, sometime in the late 1950s, or early 1960s. Charles had come to Haifa as a favor to a friend running a hospital. He ended up staying longer than he'd expected to. Something was out of place about the volunteer orderly with the shock white hair and the fake name, who Charles immediately gravitated towards.
There isn't much known about their time together there; except that they both realized they weren't alone; and the rest is history.
