And then the boy—was he a boy? No; he was short, but his eyes blazed with the indignation of a man’s. The man stood before him, trembling as he clenched his jaw and held out one single, bright gold coin.
He’s got to be fucking joking. A coin? A single coin?
Kageyama stares incredulously down at him for a very, very long time. The man stares right back, jaw clenched tight, hand shaking ever so slightly.
“This is all that I have,” he whispers, ragged. It’s a sound Kageyama is familiar with, somehow—it’s pride, furiously scraped aside for the sake of something the man considers more precious than himself. “I’m begging you. Please.”
Fuck. He’s gonna regret this. Kageyama grinds his teeth and snatches the coin from the man’s hand.
“Fine,” he snarls. “I’ll help you with your god damn problem.”

Hinata enlists the help of the uncouth, emotionless, bastard Witcher Kageyama of Kitagawa Daiichi to rid his village of a monster. The transaction should’ve been over with the exchange of a single coin and the head of the beast, but destiny works in far more interesting ways than either man could possibly imagine.
