Summary
They stand off like that for a couple seconds before Frank turns to the entrance. "Get out of here," he says, forcing it out like it pains him to say. With his reputation of killing criminals like her by any means necessary, it probably does. But, and she can't imagine him saying it out loud, he cares more about Peter than whatever mission he originally set out to complete.
They have that in common.
It's why, even after his footsteps have long faded away, she ignores the unconscious man she wanted to kill and focuses on monitoring Peter's vitals on the way to the hospital. She even ignores him when he wakes up an hour later and stumbles out of the room to get as far away as possible.
More hours pass before she even thinks about leaving.

One month after MJ was almost killed five times, Peter Parker is still just a stranger.
At least, that's what she keeps telling herself.
Ned has already moved on. He doesn't remember Peter from before, and he probably never will, just like her - but that doesn't stop him from becoming Peter's best friend all over again. According to him, the old memories don't matter when they can just make new ones.
MJ, on the other hand, can't seem to do the same. She can't just forget what happened, forget what he said, and pretend Peter is someone new in their lives. So, she keeps her distance.
Until Peter shows up at her apartment in the middle of the night, bruised, bleeding, and asking for Ned.
