Look away from him, Aegon tells himself. Their cousin Ormund is the kind of man their mother should’ve told them to stay away from whenever he showed up at the pool parties or when the pudding was being served, but Mum has been packing Daeron up and sending him to Ormund every summer, blindly and hopefully desperate for Daeron to be better than he and Aemond, better soil for the seed to squirm its way into the feel-good moisture or whatever the fuck.

Or, Aegon and Aemond, at the behest of their mother, take Daeron under their wings for a night because, apparently, Aegon's in the business of babysitting. Still, it shouldn't be complicated. The only problem is that he begins to notice that something is not quite right with Daeron's relationship with their cousin, Ormund.

Summary
Set after season 1, episode 7 of House of the dragon. Diverges from canon afterwards.
In an attempt to keep his family from drifting apart, Viserys makes an unusual decision: Daeron is to leave Oldtown to ward at Dragonstone, where he will be placed under Rhaenyra's care. The King hopes that having his youngest son raised alongside his half-sister and her children will strengthen the fragile ties between his family, and perhaps prevent an upcoming Dance of Dragons.
Gwayne Hightower is commanded to escort Daeron to Dragonstone as his sworn shield.
Gwayne and Daeron are forced into circumstances neither of them anticipated, finding themselves in enemy territory, surrounded by the very people their family may be at war with in the days to come.
As tensions between the Greens and the Blacks escalate, Daeron must navigate a household that deems him untrustworthy, while Gwayne struggles to protect him without provoking the Blacks. They discover in time that being surrounded by enemies may be the least of their troubles.

Summary
“When we are reunited,” he whispered, so fast and low Daeron might almost have doubted he had really said it, if it were not for the way Gwayne held his gaze, dark and true, as he mounted his horse.
Gwayne makes a promise to Daeron, when he leaves Oldtown. The time between then and Gwayne's arrival in Tumbleton changes them both, and the man who joins them over twelve moons later seems to have no memory of this promise.

A family ought to stay together, her father has done well in teaching Rhaenyra that much. Now that the old king is ailing it is her duty to ensure that all is how it always should have been. Even if that means messing with her own sibling's minds.
