Summary
Garak is a man who excels in making things more complicated than they strictly need to be. Like introducing himself to a pretty boy at lunch: this surely requires 1) a minor personal crisis, 2) urgent espionage while blocking traffic, and 3) space duolingo while hiding behind a ficus. Thankfully, Bashir is a man who exceeds in breaking things down to the very basics: clean lines, a keen mind, and absolute and total obliviousness to spies who may or may not be making a fool of themselves.
Once Garak gets his act together, after all, Bashir can make a fool of himself.

....Angel of Music, she called him. A little seraphim, a collection of nothing but eyes and wings and adoration, all wrapped up in his prostrations and his endless hymns in her immortal name.
So this is what it is, Christine feels, blasphemy welling up invincible and unrepentant in her breast, to play God.

Summary
Shon-ha-lok: the feeling when the current takes you. It's the Vulcan phrase for "love at first sight," but sometimes it sneaks up on you. Sometimes the oncoming tide has been twining around your heels for forty years and counting, and it only yanks you under when it knows you're good and doomed. Humanity will probably never know that the Vulcans associate them more with mermaids with every passing year — as changeable as the sea and twice as tempting — but the undertow has got Ambassador Soval and it's only a matter of time before he throws himself around a man he swore he'd never let get the better of him and hangs on like he's his only lifeline.
A storm is coming, and it's going to take Soval under. But for now, he's still treading water.

Summary
Jack caught sight of his collar on the coffee table. The leather was bright against the dark wood, nothing like the one Jack had at home that Gabriel sometimes buckled lovingly around his throat. Subdued black, with a simple silver ring and subtle fur lining. No, this one was vivid neon pink, the fur on the underside stark white and lush, the ring an oversized heart.
It wasn’t supposed to make him feel cared for. It was supposed to make him feel owned. Just another of Hana’s playthings, ready to be used.
