Matt struggles with a movie he kind of hates and ambiguous feelings on an ambiguous best friend, and discovers repression doesn't last when you're making self-aware irony your every move.

He definitely fell down, he’s on the ground and there's a pain and there's the grey pavement under him. He's wearing different clothes. He instinctively reaches up to the part where he’s hurting, and he’s already done this before, he feels the slight slickness of blood from a small open wound. The open wound he already got from getting hit with a stone. It’s the same open wound, it’s the same pavement, the same light around him, the same time.
“What the fuck, what the fuck,” he hears Matt yell from behind him, then run towards him, saying words that he’s already said.
Yeah, what the fuck?
Owen's stuck in a time loop. The problem is he's not the one who needs to change.

Matt feels that itch, that spring under his feet that fills him whenever he’s coming up with an idea. It’s a literal spring, apparently, because he shifts back and forth until he’s leaning into Williams’ personal space. Because how good would it be, to get back at Jay like this? In their shared hotel room? Fuck, in Jay’s stupid choice of a bed?
“You wanna check a preview back at my place?”
Williams smiles.
Matt's still reeling from the adoration he's getting from the press. An upcoming actor at Sundance approaches him, and, well, he's kind of a little bit like Jay.

tremendously inspiring text ive returned to so very often... really beautifully told and i think the entirety of their dynamic can be explained fully by this fic. magically tackles everything in such a simple and singular moment, and it's great because every thing about them has to be about everything. everyone else pack it up.
