Morty got into an argument with Rick. He knew that much. While he couldn't really remember what had happened, he'd still been bitter about it, even if he'd missed things. But in the end, like always, he lost the standstill, this time by reluctantly agreeing to go find a gem. He wanted to get back to their routines too badly to stay on the outskirts for any longer.
So when Evil Morty shows up and starts shit-talking Rick, Morty doesn't want to believe him, but the guy might have a point. He also might just be evil.
