Silence followed after that; Felix peered up at the sky. His hand found its way into his pocket. Chan looked as the mortal dug into the fabric and pulled out a knife far longer and wider than the space allowed. He watched as Felix’s eyes rolled back, and how his mouth shivered with every whispered syllable and chant that formed on his tongue. Ancient words slithered into the air and burrowed themselves deep into Chan’s mind, wringing every part of his body responsible for thinking into a pool of messy liquids. It hurt. In fact, it hurt a lot more than his rebirth had. For the fires back then had accepted him as its child, but the hold Felix had on him had not.
