Summary
The text came six weeks after their breakup.
Six weeks of not talking to his favourite person. Six weeks that took Charlie through drowning in pain to an all-consuming numbness.
🍂
Charlie would like to imagine he at least hesitated, but the truth was, he barely had time to quietly gasp before tapping the notification.
It was a photo. A cramped student's room, piled with boxes labelled in Nick's scrawl. The bed was still bare, as if Nick has snapped this picture the moment he walked through the door and dropped his belongings on the floor.
Beneath, Nick had texted,
"There. 380 km away. That enough space?"

Or, to use the wonderful Megelator's bookmark as the pitch:
"This fic starts at the breakup in the film, and imagines an alternate situation where Charlie doesn't reach out and they're still broken up when Nick goes to Leeds.
Beautifully written angst, with a happy ending and twists I did not see coming! For me personally, it gives both a more realistic scenario post break up and a more satisfying conclusion!"

Complete in 12 chapters (11 + an epilogue). Any after that are optional Nick POV chapters.

Summary
There is a Year Twelve student sitting at their dining table, waiting for Charlie, a Year Eleven who hasn’t even taken his maths subject yet, to enlighten him on how to perform calculus correctly. Charlie can’t even let out the groan that’s building at the thought, because the other boy is looking at him expectantly, not taking his stupid honey-brown eyes off Charlie’s face.
Not just any Year Twelve.
Nicholas Nelson.
Captain of the school rugby team.
Friends with Harry Greene.
Charlie had started off unenthusiastic about the “peer tutoring” but this … this is a disaster. It may be a catastrophe. Of course, of fucking course, the universe had paired him up with one of the rugby boys. The rugby boy, really.
Could it get any worse than this?
Nick hates maths. Charlie hates tutoring. They just can’t seem to get along.
