    In another timeline, Shane and Ilya hook up in Room 1410, Ilya slips out unnoticed, and they spend the next seven years trapped in the situationship from hell we all know and love.

    In this one, Yuna Hollander walks in just as Ilya goes to leave and—through the combined power of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and a frankly alarming lack of follow-up—Shane and Ilya start dating in 2010.

    Given the chance to grow up with rather than against each other, Shane and Ilya build a life thats steadier, safer, and far less frightening than their canon. Their rivalry fizzles before it ever has the chance to fully ignite, replaced by hockey’s most beloved “bromance", and in 2015, they find the courage to do the one thing their canon counterparts never got to do: tell the NHL and the world.

    There is just one problem: No one believes them.

     

    OR: Despite Shane and Ilya being out for two years, Scott Hunter is still considered the first openly gay player in the NHL, much to Ilya’s indignation.

    “This is just crazy,” J.J. said. “Give me that, Pike, I’ve got one he absolutely can’t pass.”

    “Oh, so you’re saying it’s my fault?” Hayden asked.

    “Skill issue.” J.J. paused. “Ok. Pedro Pascal.” His voice was smug. 

    A long silence stretched while Shane Hollander looked at the camera, seemingly deciding whether it was worth it to lie.

    “No!” J.J. said, horrified. 

    “Pass… I—What?”

    “The entire internet wants to fuck this man!”

    “Okay?!” Shane Hollander said, throwing his arms out. “I don’t know what to tell you!”

    “Jesus Christ, okay.” Hayden shuffled behind the camera. “Ilya Rozanov.”

    A flush bloomed across Shane Hollander’s freckled face, intensifying so fast it looked like his face was on fire. 

    “Uhm.” He pressed his lips together before his shoulders dropped in resignation. “Smash.”

    Or: A clip of Shane Hollander playing smash or pass goes viral and Ilya wants to eat him alive.

    No matter how much they beg and promise to be on their best behavior, you leave them alone. As tempting as the sex may be, you heed the warnings unless you want a fight on your hands. Maybe a broken bone or two. The mating bite usually comes whether you want it or not.

    They just can't control themselves, those wily cats. It doesn't matter how well-mannered and civilized they are in the day-to-day. All bets are off during their heat.

    The problem is, Ilya Rozanov has never been good at doing what he's told.
