Soobin plucks a velvety petal from the flower, pinching it between his thumb and forefinger and watching it slowly drift onto the floor. “Leave,” he mumbles, pulling the next petal free with a small tug, fluttering to the floor next to the other. “Stay.”
Yeonjun stands in the doorway, his jacket abandoned somewhere and tie loosened around his throat. He is as cold and unreadable as ever. Soobin doesn’t bother to ask why he has come, it isn’t like he truly cares anymore.
“What are you doing now?”
Soobin doesn’t look up, eyes following the wilting red petals as they slip between his fingers. “Just deciding,” he says, plucking another petal free. “If I should stay,” the petal drops soundlessly to the floor. “Or let you kill me trying.”

But what started as a quiet little lie by omission quickly spiraled into the shop’s new favorite slow-burn romance, as their attempt at discretion got wildly misinterpreted for undeniable chemistry time and time again.
Soobin was having the time of his life playing the part of someone making Yeonjun fall in love for the first time. Meanwhile Yeonjun was two espresso shots away from screaming because pretending not to already be in love with Soobin turned out to be so much harder than actually being in love with him.
The worst part was that management had never even made it clear whether or not workplace dating was actually against the rules! So what else were they supposed to do, really?
Or alternatively, Yeonjun and Soobin are recently hired at the same coffee shop while keeping their relationship status a secret and mistakenly let management believe they are the new resident, blooming coworker romance.

Something was off with Soobin.
That’s what Beomgyu had told Yeonjun earlier that afternoon, when they had met at the coffee shop for one of their usual group hangouts. The Omega had been quick to pull him aside under the pretence of ordering their drinks and desserts, clinging to his arm and announcing it like a doctor might deliver the news of a great illness.
“Off? How off?” Yeonjun had asked, eloquent, turning back to observe the Alpha.
Beomgyu had tugged on his shoulder to turn him around, hissing to not be so obvious, hyung. Yeonjun had never been subtle. He had never been particularly observant, either, but he trusted Beomgyu’s instincts and attentiveness. He was always the first to clock any uncharacteristic behaviour in their friends.
“I’m not sure yet. Just watch, you’ll see.”

Soobin laughs to himself, both surprised by Yeonjun’s bluntness and amused. It’s clear he’s under the other’s skin, like a piece of splintering wood. Does it itch? Does it sting? Does Yeonjun just have to know what he’s thinking?
Yeonjun waits with this look that has no translation, just something visceral. And Soobin finds he likes it. He likes the way that leather stretches over his chest. He likes the idea of Yeonjun obsessing over an offhand comment from Soobin. But most of all, he likes that he was right.
Soobin shakes his head, a simple smile on his lips.
“I don’t have an opinion.”
