Colin repeated the movement far too quickly, nearly tripping over his own feet in an attempt to prove that he had been paying attention to her instructions, and not to the sliver of skin her dress (his new best friend) had revealed.
Her lips twitched and she seemed to be making a tremendous effort not to laugh.
“That is it, Colin Ledger.” She squeezed his fingers encouragingly. “You are an excellent student.”
“Thank you. I have always been very dedicated, if you must know.”
“I did not know dedicated students stared at their teachers’ legs.” she smiled as she watched panic form across his face.
He opened his mouth, but no plausible defense appeared. Because there truly was no way to defend himself against that. It was what it was, and she had caught him.
Penelope finally laughed, and Colin decided that being caught in the act might not have been so terrible after all. If it meant making her smile that way again, he could twirl her around his finger, and admire every inch of exposed skin.
Or when Colin Bridgerton needs to buy an old inn and, without realizing it, falls in love with the owner, who is not particularly inclined to sell it.
