A week later, Carmy woke up, one year older, he was alone in bed. He could hear quiet sounds from the kitchen, and for a wild moment that clutched tightly to his chest, he thought she had ignored him and was setting something up for him. Maybe she saw through the flippant way he had dismissed it.
But, no, he found Sydney making herself a cup of tea.
“Morning,” she said with a soft smile, putting down her mug so she could wrap her arms around his shoulders. “Happy birthday.”
He barely managed a smile, holding her to him so she didn’t see how it flickered and waned. His throat felt so, so tight. Maybe he should just tell her – but no, that would be unfair. It was too late; it would be shitty to spring it on her now. She would feel guilty, and he didn’t want to upset her. He could tell her next year.

For another, Clark and Bruce would be beating the holy hell out of each other even without Lois' involvement. And if Lois was aware of the secrets they were keeping, she'd be beating the holy hell out of the both of them. Overall, Bruce's visit to Metropolis has been a mixed bag for everyone involved.
