Summary
I wrote this to explore what an emotionally realistic, modern, "adult" love story would look like with humans and Lilliputians/Borrowers to use as a metaphor for other dynamics in any relationship.
Benedito (Ben) Alvarez was an NCAA Division I basketball star in a nondescript American city. He has crippling, lifelong generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Being 7'6” adds a lot of fuel to that fire. He's also suffering from terrible post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after a horrific car accident that killed his best friend and halted the basketball career that his whole life revolved around.
While Ben was recovering one night, he heard something strange in a closet and discovered a 3.5-inch-tall woman with a tail stuck to a glue trap. He discovers her name is Hazel and, in addition to being very tiny, she is hundreds of years old. Hazel is dealing with her own trauma over her long life. Along with Ben's sister Sam and Hazel's sibling Cob, the four of them navigate their lives together as Ben and Hazel discover there's something between them despite their immense differences.
