"Your last day is Friday," the superintendent pushed the paperwork (release papers, that was what they were) towards him, "you will have to arrange your own housing after that date. After you leave this facility, you are no longer my responsibility."
Half of reality sunk in. "Remind me what day it is?"
"It's Wednesday. You have today, tomorrow, and until the end of the working day on Friday to arrange your affairs."
The other half ran him over like a truck. "Do you not have, like, systems for that? Government sharehouses and stuff?"
They were letting him out, yes, but they were effectively kicking him onto the street.
"Your records show that you're married," the superintendent stood, signalling that the conversation was over, "therefore the assumption has been made that you'll live with your spouse upon your release."
"Huh?"
