Summary
In the aftermath of Ashford, everyone lives, with varying degree of injury. In the year since, Maekar has not spoken to Baelor, has not forgiven him for choosing a stranger over blood. He has emptied Summerhall of everyone he loves and called it penance. When the king forces a marriage to seal the crack, Maekar brings nothing with him but his silence. Baelor tries anyway.

Summary
Baelor survives the blow to his head but instead of relief Maekar only feels a soul-crushing mix of shame, guilt, and fear for his brother´s life while he waits for him to please open his eyes. then, once Baelor does regain his consciousness, Maekar refuses to leave his side and tries to atone for his sin in any way he can, while also being convinced that he is entirely undeserving of his brother´s good will and forgiveness. Baelor disagrees with him on that matter, fully.
during the time of Baelor´s recovery they discover a new kind of closeness and eventually return home with only one more pressing matter left to take care of
