Rolling her eyes, Kate readjusts the belt of her bathrobe, wishing she didn’t have to be here. Stupid Spider-Man and his stupid requests, asking for stupid information on stupid V-Max. A part of her argues, At least you can relax in a bathhouse. She tells that part to shut up.

An intruder is here, in her living room, and Kate shouldn’t feel safe anymore.
She really shouldn’t.
“Kate Bishop,” says Yelena, not looking at her.
“Yelena Belova,” Kate replies, rolling her eyes, expecting taunting, or flirting, or both.
Except, Yelena is still quiet, still not looking at her. Her eyes are trailed on the ground, and her fingers, covered in dirt and debris, are limp. Kate remembers those hands, and how they felt. She could never forget, no matter how badly she wanted to.
Kate grits her teeth. “Well? What is it this time?”

It’s all Fatin says when Dot picks up the phone, but it’s enough - the words are like a shot of adrenaline. Dot springs up from the couch where she was lazily watching a morning rerun of Survivor, and suddenly she’s wide awake, mind sharp, nerves jittery with urgency.
