Summary
1972 to 1979. Muriel Solo is being raised by two UNCLE executives, a magician's assistant, and a photographer. Her relationship with truth and illusion was bound to be quite complicated quite early.
Post-fieldwork Illya/Napoleon and Mimi Doolittle are still bringing up a child in this verse, with period-typical complexities. You don't need to read all previous installments to understand this story, but if you want to know more than Solo Junior, giving at least The Domestic Affair a skim should bring you up to speed.

Summary
He strips methodically and washes out his stained, filthy clothes as best he can, hanging them to dry on a rotting section of ancient fence. They’re not going to dry much in the cool of the gathering dark, but there’ll be Illya’s campfire still going when he returns.
Is Illya watching? Napoleon hopes he is. For safety, most of all, but for other reasons too.

He should have been able to think of something else. Some other answer that would not utterly destroy their partnership. But the general’s men were coming, and every distant thud of boots drove more thoughts out of Illya’s head until all that was left was the sight of those eyes wide with bewildered fear, those lips slightly parted in confusion.

Summary
The facts: Napoleon would never doubt Illya. Illya would never betray Napoleon’s trust.
Another fact: Illya is a compulsive liar.
The research question: …a rather unfortunate combination, wouldn’t you say?
