Summary
"Buck-"
"The cabinet was an accident I-"
"-why didn't you tell me we're in love?"
Now hold on.
That-
Hm.
Buck's brain might actively be melting out of his ears.
"What?" The question falls from his lips as a gasping breath.
"You didn't say anything about us being in love," Eddie continues simply.

"How long until Buck's here?"
"You have maybe two minutes before you're being fretted over," Chimney helpfully replies, flashing Eddie a wide grin.
"Great." He tips his head back against the pillows with a wince, closing his eyes slowly.
Maybe he can pretend to be asleep when Buck gets here and then he won't have to face the wrath of a worried Buck.
He opens his eyes tilting his head to ask Chimney if he'll sneak in some coffee and then the door is swinging open cracking against the wall with a resounding smack.

Summary
"Out with it, you know I'm impatient. I can't take the anticipation."
"It's just - he asked me about divorce?"
Oh no.
"He did?" Buck's voice is significantly pitchier than it was before.
"Yeah," Eddie shrugs like this is a normal thing for a four-year-old to ask about. "And he said you told him we weren't getting divorced."

Summary
Maybe, if he just stands there silently, Buck will get tired of waiting and drop it and then Eddie can pretend to live in a world where there isn't happening.
"You know talking involves words leaving your mouth right?"
Wishful thinking.
"Yes Buck, I'm familiar with the concept."
"Just checking cause you're not really giving me much to work with here."

Summary
"Everything's peachy," he grumbles. "Now get up, cause I have a bone to pick with you."
Eddie's brows ruffle in confusion before he stands up like he can't help listening to Buck. "If this is about that mug I smashed when I was watching Theo I swear it was an accident."
"That was you? I've been blaming the ghosts for weeks."

Summary
Buck's jaw shifts, like maybe he was expecting a fight. They're no strangers to those. Eddie could give him one, if he felt like it; he knows the rhythm all too well. Lash out, dig his fingers into every sore spot he can find, whatever it takes to shove Buck—anyone, really—out of range of his own raw and impossible feelings.
This isn't so raw anymore. He knows what he wants.
-
Or: Eddie works up to coming out. Once again, Buck ends up being the last one to know.

Summary
There’s a joke in here somewhere, probably. If he could figure out how to word it right. Hey, so we’ve both been broken up for a while—those Army days, man, shit gets lonely—
So, a widower walks into a bar, and he hasn’t been held by someone he loves in years.
So, the last time I was close to you, really close to you, I was restarting your heart. Isn’t that funny? We can laugh, right? You can laugh. It’s funny.
Jesus Christ.
Eddie rolls over in his empty bed, mashes his face back into his pillow, and forces himself to fall asleep.
—
or: buck doesn’t touch eddie anymore. eddie’s losing it, a little bit.

Summary
He’s still greedy, even now. Still can’t figure out how to loosen his grip on it just a little, knuckles white with how hard he’s holding on, but he’s trying so hard to give Eddie space and time because he asked for it, because when they got together, Eddie couldn’t seem to stop looking at him when he asked Buck to be patient with him, couldn’t hide the nerves from his voice, the vulnerability of his open chest, the honesty in his fingers against Buck’s wrist where he’d held on so gently as if he was afraid to come any closer. So Buck is trying, to just sink into having it rather than wanting more, to let it be enough rather than him being too much, and he’s been doing good, mostly. He’s been doing good.
-
Or asking for what you want is asking too much of Buck, except it isn’t really. Not when it’s Eddie.

Summary
“Hi,” Buck smiles at him, soft. “Can’t sleep, baby?”
Theo’s lips wobble, eyes filling up with tears. He shakes his head in a miserable little no.
“Come here,” Buck makes grabby hands at him, bracing himself when Theo runs over and sprawls on him, knees digging into Buck’s stomach.
—theo can't sleep, and he spills a (big) secret.

Summary
“Can you open your eyes?”
“No. I can’t look at you.”
“Because I’m gay?”
Buck sighs dramatically.
“Because you’re pretty. And because you’re gay. Because you’re gay and pretty.”
“Buck,” Eddie laughs. “Open your eyes.”
Or, Eddie comes out to Buck. Buck panics. Hijinks ensue.
