Summary
Years ago, long before they were together, long before he became King Consort of the Dreaming, Hob Gadling made his friend, Dream of the Endless a promise. In the event that Dream was ever captured again, Hob would stop at nothing, no matter who got in his way, to get Dream back.
Then the day comes for him to keep that promise.
Hob doesn't hesitate.

Summary
There is a new temple in London.
This is not so unusual. Dream has been…away, as his sister says, for over a century. Even had he not been, he does not map the Waking so thoroughly as to always see these things when they start. Places of love, of devotion, spring up from time to time. He leaves them be; they are not, generally speaking, his business.
What is unusual is that this one is shaped like a pub, and it is very much his business.
Dream contemplates The New Inn as he approaches.
Hob’s actions while Dream is away have consequences neither of them anticipated.

Summary
"I could stand to see you more often," Hob says, a little bit hesitant, and Dream’s eyebrows nearly rise into his hairline.
"That is truly what you wish?” He’s looking at Hob like he’s an enigma wrapped in a riddle, which is funny coming from a not-quite-man whose name he only learned last year after six hundred years of meeting.
In which Dream agrees to visit Hob more often and neither of them quite know what they're getting into.

Summary
Completely unintentionally, Hob found he had opened a small outpost of his Temple to Dream of the Endless; students on their knees on the prickly blue carpet squares, while Dream reclined in front of them, being petted ceaselessly, receiving stories as offerings.
Hob's students absolutely love the cat that haunts his office.
