“I didn’t think you would make it!” He hears Phainon shout over the thinning horde.
Mydei takes a titankin by the neck, crushing it. He uses the crumbling head of his prey to disable another trying to creep upon Phainon’s blind-side, drawing a surprised yelp from him. “Did you forget, Savior, that I said I'd be the one to drag you back should trouble ever find you.”
“As much as I appreciate your help, it isn't as though I can’t handle this on my own!”
“It’s been more than a fortnight since we’ve heard from you!”
"That can't be right." An arch of blue and they were down to less than a dozen. "I sent a message by teleslate not three days ago.”
Strife’s Trial leaves Phainon a lonesome wanderer in the golden fields of his own grief. Mydei volunteers to bring him back.

Summary
He’s eight years old and he wants to see the world after being caged in an orphanage for so long. Dark corridors and an absence of love and warmth and safety, so much alike to the one he’s running through right now, small feet taking him as fast as they can in an attempt to escape from the monsters that had somehow escaped his dreams to wander around in reality.
Atsushi is eight and Kyouka is six and now he’s lost her because he wasn’t strong enough to keep her with him.
It’s his fault.
(Atsushi visits a travelling art gallery with his new family. It's, apparently, alive and he finds out the hard way when the Underground Fish swallowed him. He panics, rushes to look for Kyouka but finds a man in blue instead.)

And, well, Dazai's not happy about it, but Chuuya's there so everything's a little bit better and a little bit brighter.
(Or, Dazai wakes up the morning of Christmas feeling a lot more than sad, his chest heavy and throat tight, Chuuya's somehow broken in to his apartment and they go visit a grave. Throughout the day, Dazai learns what it is to let go and to hope. Snowball fights, hair braiding, flower language, and a briefly hot moment in a changing room ensues, not necessarily in that order.)

It’s a thing wearing Mydei’s skin. A mimic of the same numbers and electrical signals.
It thrashes like the real one. Bucks with strength but Phainon clenched his thighs on either side of its waist. Scrabbles at Phainon’s arm with bare hands and not gauntlets, but Phainon’s grip tightens around its throat for every long line spilling gold down his fingers and its face.
Glassy eyes. Black flickering red. The only thing they reflect is Phainon. Nothing else exists.
“Stop…” Lips shaped after Mydei’s move but the voice crackles and pops with static. “Resisting.”
A grin stretches his lips. He knows what he looks like. Wild, deranged, humanity burned away by millions of suns and the rest of his meagre existence halfway gone. Taken from him and assimilated into something trying to be greater than him.
“I could say the same to you.”
Irontomb’s attempts to assimilate Phainon continuously end in failure. Phainon’s hatred is simply too steadfast to break.
So Irontomb experiments with a new approach: to pacify Phainon’s hatred with happiness. No matter how many scenarios and iterations it takes.
As always with Phainon, it’s not that simple.
