    Summary

Baelor knew of his youngest brother's birth even before their father did. In the hush between his mother's latest hoarse scream and the babe's first shrill cry he had felt it, a little tingling right beneath the skin on his left forearm, and had in his excitement almost ripped the sleeve of his fine tunic just to get a look.

Baelor and Maekar grow up marked for each other, never questioning if they belong together, never knowing what being alone even feels like. When they, as princes of the realm, still have to provide heirs they do their duty like they do everything – together. When one day another mark blooms on their arms they know they will do this together too, but unbeknownst to them finding their marked may yet prove more difficult than they thought.

    Summary

He realizes then, horrified, how much trouble he would be in if him and Aerion were ever in the same room as each other again. How weak he'd be. How quickly he'd succumb to the pull of Aerion's eyes on him, the scent of him as their arms might brush while passing each other by, the promise to feel his skin move beneath Dunk's palms again. He wouldn't be able to stop it, no matter how hard he'd fight. Pathetic, is what he'd be. Crawling on all fours for scraps while Aerion no doubt had moved on a long time ago. Dunk had seen the headlines. The gossip online. The pictures of Aerion with his beautiful hair shaved and colored red.

    Summary

After his nephew fails to make an appearance before an important delegation, Baelor decides to teach both Daeron and Maekar a lesson.

Something had gone wrong somewhere along the way, some rot had set in, just as it had with Aerion. The fault, Baelor could admit, lay as much with his beloved brother as with his spawn if not more, for was the rearing of a tree not the gardener’s province? One bad seed could be explained away, but if the whole meadow withered…No, that was indication of the gardener’s incapacity.

There was not much that could be done now–maybe the little ones could be saved if they played their cards right, if Maekar learned from his mistakes–but some of the damage might yet be mitigated. Daeron was, after all, not Aerion. If he lacked in strength, mettle, ambition, honour–the list went on, really–at least he did not share in his brother’s wild, uncaring cruelty either.

Baelor had worked with much less.

    Summary

“You’ll take the vow tonight,” he said. “After that, no lordship, you, no wife, no land, no babes. This–” And he stamped his foot so that the horses tossed their heads. “The gate ‘tween all that was and the night ahead.”

“It’s just a fucking wall, man,” Lyonel said, but felt a shiver run through him all the same.

In 196 AC, a common Flea Bottom urchin is claimed by a wandering crow after being accused of murder.

In 209 AC, Lyonel Baratheon strikes a prince in defense of a common puppet girl and chooses taking the black over losing a hand.

In the shadow of the Wall, at the end of the world, the two of them meet.

    Summary

"Apologies, Lord Lannister," Ser Duncan says, his voice steady, tone stern. Aerion has to, embarrassingly enough, go on his tiptoes to catch a look at his profile, and his face seems confident, not at all intimidated by the annoyed gaze Lannister throws him. "Prince Maekar was very clear that no one was to touch Prince Aerion without his explicit consent."

Lord Lannister makes a complicated face, as if he can't quite understand the words out of Ser Duncan's mouth. "Pardon me? No, Prince Maekar wants his son wed within the year. All of the Seven Kingdoms has heard it by now. If he expects no one to touch him, he might as well lock him in his chambers and lose the key!"

Aerion steps forward as white-hot anger flashes in his veins; he moves, intending to beat this puny little lord's insolence to a bloody pulp, but Ser Duncan throws an arm out and forcibly shoves Aerion back behind him, a warning growl on his lips.

Lord Lannister freezes. Aerion freezes. Ser Duncan stays relaxed.
