    [UPDATED AND COMPLETE!]

“There were times in my life when I wondered whether I’d been here at all. Whether it was something I made up— something Marius made up. He took me back, once, as a customer. I didn’t recognize anyone.”
Daniel leans back against the cushions, runs a hand over the stubble along his jaw. “It happened, Armand. It fucking happened.”
    “Yes.”
“And you don’t think it stuck around? You don’t think it lingered?”

[Post-interview, Armand and Daniel go through the files assembled by the Talamasca on Armand's past.]

    Summary

The boy is a speck on the side of the road. The only reason he stands out at all is that the world around him is so terribly, abysmally dull, and there is an explosion of vibrant blood streaking down his face and splattering his shirt. Other than that, he is bland--his brown curls coated in highway dust, his skin pallid from the blood loss, his clothes fashionable but wrinkled and worn.

He is holding his thumb out.

Armand pulls up next to him.

Or, the year is 1978. Daniel needs a ride, and Armand needs to feed. They have no idea that this chance meeting, which should have been deadly, will change their lives over the course of a journey from one side of America to another (with a few stops in between).

    Summary

"I know what a breakup looks like," Daniel says. "The better question is, why are you coming to me about it? I'm the one who broke up your little sham."

"This is what humans do, don't they?" Armand asks, letting his voice drop. "Crashing on their friends' couches when there's a blip in their romances?"

"Except we're not friends. We're actually very much not friends." Daniel shrugs, as if it's all the same to him. "And I can't imagine the great vampire Armand deigning himself to sleep on my fucked-up sofa. That thing's been here since the nineties."

"Well," Armand only says. "I saw you have a guest bedroom."

    Summary

“Such a good fledgling,” he says, drops the cigarette, then twists further around in Daniel’s arms to reward him with a kiss; it’s a cheeky one, just a little dirty, full of a coy promise with the way Armand’s tongue swipes through his mouth, and just when Daniel is about to give chase and go in for more, Armand pulls back, the little shit. “Watch the parade, beloved,” he says, eyes like a million sparklers.

Daniel growls, but does as he’s told, because A) this parade looks kinda awesome, and B) if he’s a good little fledgling, then maybe he’ll get to take Armand’s tights off him with his teeth.

“Hey, everyone, it’s your boy, Daniel Molloy! Today we’ll be watching my husband, Armand, test-drive a rice baller to see how it does with fifteen severed human toes! Wave at the camera, babe!”

    “Fourteen.”

    “What?”

    “It’s fourteen severed human toes.”

“...yeah. So anyway, guys, we have fourteen human toes here, only the small ones, without the big toes for some reason—”

    “They were too big.”

“They were too big. Oh, okay, you’re showing them to the camera, there goes the monetisation for this video!”
