“It's just...” he began, after a moment’s consideration. “Matt. I’m not sure I want to do this one.”
He’d laughed, but Matt could sense whenever Jay was starting to get cold feet for real. The tell was in him twisting his fingers; Bird’s nervous little habit. If they were going to make this work, he needed to throw out the safety float and drag him back on board.
“It’s OK.” Matt clapped him on the shoulder, prodding his chest with the other hand. “Birdie, hey. Look. We’re gonna deal with this. ‘Cause I need you there to be part of the plan, alright? Here’s what we’re gonna do: what if I pretended to be a mannequin?"

A look at Dethklok's fate had the members not met at such a young age.(While the prose is unfinished, the final story beats are outlined in the final chapter, and I hope it provides a satisfying conclusion!)
