“I'm going to fucking ruin you,” Sheppard whispers. “And you're gonna love every damn second of it.” Damning promise, voice fictitiously warm, loving. Unhinged. Lost to primal instincts. Mouths at Rodney's neck before his teeth sink in, cruel, unyielding. Exerts pressure until Rodney feels the pain of skin breaking. Twitches at the sensation. Moans before he can bite the sound back. Pain-pleasure. Wrecks his body. Toes curling, arms twitching.
Sheppard's grin is vindicated. Lips bloody, teeth sharp. Looks down at Rodney.

Doesn't question how come he's still learning to write Kanji yet knows how to correctly use a word like bulimia. How he knows it at all. Precocious kid. Maybe he just got lucky. Hands on the edge of the sink, mirror-image. Pale face, sweaty hair. Ears red. Croaks out, “F—Fine.”
Shuichi, sixteen. Shut-in. Doesn't expect his konbini-run to go this—horribly, horribly wrong. Doormat-boy. Who gets blackmailed by an eight year old to let them stay at your house?

It's the near-death-experience thing. Adrenaline spiking high, survival instincts flashing could-be's through his mind, regret bubbling like poison in his heart.
He can be blamed, is the thing. He's emotional and rash and doesn't think things through, but it's been hours, sat down with the lawyers and higher-ups to recount the encounter. Told them John's location—of his body. His remains. If there even are any to recover.
It's not like he's still high off his almost-death.
He doesn't have to grab Alex by the upper arm. Doesn't have to pull him back, right against himself until Steve topples over at the collision, his back hitting the exam table, Alex on top of him, bracing his hands at the sides of Steve's head.
He doesn't have to bury his fingers in the hair at Alex's nape. Doesn't have to pull him down and crash his mouth against his in what's more a bruise than a gentle admission.
He does it anyway.

The ones of the crew are still up, their laughing faces so wide, it feels like they're laughing at Sanji.
Something under Sanji's shoe crunches. Glass, he realizes.
It's a picture of Zoro and Luffy. Still young, still stupid boys. They're laughing, their grins wide and beaming as they tussle.
Sanji's grip on the picture is tight. So tight, he's surprised he hasn't accidentally ripped it yet.
He looks up again. Gaze filtering through the entire room.
It's undeniable. Is right in front of them.
Luffy is gone.

Fresh blood blossomed through ridges in the stone.
It’s alive. Every blood cell slowly dying in the flowing plasma is alive. The torn muscle tissue and spilled bone marrow is alive. If she tunes her mind to it, if she turns on that ‘rainbow eye’, as her old disciple called it, she can feel all of it, the dying motor neurons, the bacteria and amoeba drowning as the blood branches over the rocks like a droning background choir. She can also simply ignore it, like it isn’t even there.
The “monster” is cleaved in two. The armour forged in the beginning of the world, and the swords pulled from the ‘mountain of many colours’ cannot stay stained in blood or death, because they bear the essence and mark of Life, and every drop and stain on them hums away and dissolves in a static, neon glow.
The shivering girl at the end of the cave was fated to die to the monster. It was supposed to happen. But it was not so long ago that Death trespassed into her territory, and took life that was meant to live - at least, not from her point of view. So why shouldn’t she be able to rebalance the scales?
