And even though he'd tipped his hand and revealed he had magic, he still hadn't been able to protect them from the wicked wizard that had come to kill them all. He was a failure. He'd let them all down. He'd fallen from the heavens, and Owen had been the one to tear his wings off. And yet. And yet! He'd failed, and yet he'd persisted! He'd tried so hard to protect the humans who were going to hate him now, willing to risk his life for them! Owen had certainly planned on killing him at first, but he was enthralled now. He'd never met a storybook knight in the flesh before.
