Strahm is a couple years too old to join the war and short a functional arm.
It was titled Matrimony, but in content, it was anything but what the mail-order flyers of the same caliber included:
"Looking for someone with a kind disposition to help out around my farm. I’ve got poultry and two gentle milk cows, and a fair amount of land wherein we shall share the labor. Must be fond of children. I have a young daughter who requires watching while I ride to town."
Either way, it served as a golden opportunity for Strahm to start a new life in the West. He asked the postmistress for paper and unhooked his pen from his shirt pocket.
