Caleb rolls over. His eyes are human-dull in the dark, the blue just catching the edge of moonlight filtering in through the window. He touches his forehead to hers. They breathe. Not long and slow—quick, a little frantic.
The warmth blooms between her ribs. She names it magic, despite knowing the ember-sting of arcana these days.
She sees Caleb’s throat work as he swallows. He whispers, “that makes two of us, Nott the Brave.”

After the events of Projekt Funball and Darktow, Luc Brenatto takes Nugget and runs away from home. It’s not about the baby brother no one told him he was getting– or not only about that– however, once he starts asking questions, Luc learns that his parents are not infallible beings and perhaps life does not have easy answers.

So I need you to breathe and look at me, okay? I’m not going to hurt you and you’re not going to hurt me.”
The eyes blink. Once. Twice. Three times. “Cad?”
“Yep. You’re good.”
“I’m good?”
“I like to think so. You’re certainly not bad. I’ve killed you before; I’d know.”
