Summary
The maester said Aegon had been a quiet baby. His mother said it too, as though a flaw they'd corrected. He was no longer quiet; he laughed at everything. Noise was armor. If you were funny, no one looked too closely at what you were hiding.
Aemond did not laugh. He watched rooms like an inventory of what he intended to own. He had no dragon. Aegon had Sunfyre—golden, beautiful, and his—and sometimes he caught Aemond watching with an expression quieter and more patient than jealousy.
"You should try," Aegon had told him, meaning pick a dragon before you ruin yourself wanting the impossible.
Aemond looked at him. "I am trying. I'm just not ready."
Aegon hadn't known what to do with a six-year-old who spoke like that, so he laughed. Aemond's expression closed like a door. They never spoke of it again.
That night, Aegon lay in bed listening to the city breathe, feeling the specific shape of a wanting—not for a thing, but a way out. At eight, he understood his life would ask more of him than he intended to give.

“Do not tempt fate, brother.” Aegon said with a plea. He yearned for Aemond to push him away, spit at him, draw a dagger from beneath the pillow he had been sprawled against like an oil painting’s subject just moments before. He yearned for his rejection Just to rid him of the strangle-hold of desire that was taking over him, misting his judgement, and leaving everything foggy and indiscernible.
No violence followed, Aemond simply blinked, curling eyelashes capturing the orange glow of the candles so that they glimmered like spun sugar.

A lopsided smile had stitched itself across his brother's mouth. It was a subtle mutation of Aegon's usual beam—brows drawn, nostrils flared, the round shine of his eyes taking on a hidden fierceness as pricks of longing began to wet his pale lashes.
He asked for adoration as king, yet this was when he was easiest to love: supplicant and sorrowful, shedding the salt of his tears upon his brother's parched lips.
The night after his coronation, Aegon comes to Aemond for comfort.

Tags: Super LighterCentric, mostly just form his POV, tags will update as I go, I didn't mean for this to be a multichap but part 4 became 1.5K words even before I reworte it and I just had to split it up oops, this kind of became a "how Lighter joined the gang, came to call SoC his family, and then fell in love with Billy" fic, I will make sure to tag appropriately chapter by chapter any TWs that come up, but overall know that I am aiming for this fic to have more comfort than hurt, and it is also filled with copious amounts of extrapolation from canon sandwiched between my headcanons and whatever makes the fic flow best lol..., also on the semi-public kissing tag it's the same as my other fic where no one's around to witness them make out but they are outside lmao)
Five times Billy gave Lighter his scarf, and the one time Lighter kept it.
