File Designation: Project Rebirth. 2.0
Subject: JOHN F. WALKER
Statue: Evaluated as Unstable/ConditionalSummary: Subject represents one of several post-Serum initiatives designed to replicate Steve Rogers/Captain America. “You like structure. You like clarity. You like knowing what’s expected. There are… sites. Communities. People who are into exactly that.”
Bucky blinked.Then: “Oh hell no.”
“Not like that—well, actually, yes, like that,” Sam said, unbothered. “But not in a creepy ‘hey baby wanna be my little pet’ kind of way. In a genuine connection around power exchange and trust kind of way.”
“Jesus Christ,” Bucky muttered, turning like he could physically walk away from the words.
“I’m serious,” Sam called after him. “You want control. Not over someone—well, maybe over someone. But mostly just in your own damn life. That’s what half of this is about.”
“I’m not going on a sex site.”

Summary
John caught the way Mel’s stare softened at the edges, hungry in a way she probably thought was subtle.
John snorted under his breath. Pfft. Yeah, that’s not going to happen.
And then—an idea.
Fine. Let them both find out. Let Bucky see firsthand how mismatched it would be with her. All the soft smiles that didn’t know what to do with his scars. Let him get frustrated enough to realize what John already knew. And then, then John would be there. The one who understood. The one who fit.
OR: An ABO story where John is convinced that he and Bucky would be great together, he just needs the other half to see it.

“We’re putting you in the next shelter newsletter.”
John blinked. “Like… as a warning?”
“As a feature,” she said brightly. “Cute photo of you and Alpine. A little profile. Something like: Loyal, semi-housebroken white male seeks companionship. Good with animals, slightly less good with people. May come when called.”
Little did he know that someone would see it over coffee the following week and think: Huh. That cat could use a home.
OR: John gets his picture posted with shelter cat Alpine to attracted dates. He attracts Bucky and thinks they are dating. Bucky thinks they have the longest adoption process ever.

Summary
Because John was trying not to ask for too much. He knew what Bucky had been through. Knew how hard it was for him to trust anyone with that scarred, private part of himself that even his therapists only got glimpses of. So John told himself to be patient. Told himself not to push.
He tried to let it go. Told himself that what they had was already more than he’d ever expected. That it had taken months to get here. And for god’s sake, don’t ruin it. Don’t be the guy who needs too much. Who demands answers before the ink’s dry.
So yeah, maybe Bucky wasn’t going anywhere.
But John was still waiting for him to arrive.

Summary
Bucky doesn’t like John Walker.
Let’s get that out of the way. He doesn’t like the way he talks, the way he breathes superiority like it’s earned, or how he carries that mangled shield like it’s anything but a fake.
He hates how John makes it all look like a game—like this life, this country, these sins don’t weigh on him every time he looks in the mirror.
But Bucky's no stranger to hypocrisy. Because he shows up at John’s shitty apartment anyway, hood up, knuckles bruised, pretending the night’s cold even though he doesn’t feel it anymore.
John answers the door in a t-shirt that clings too tightly to his chest and eyes that flicker between confusion and something else—something too close to hope.
“You're cold,” he states, not unkind.
Bucky doesn’t answer.
He just steps inside.
