That made Maekar turn. “The dragon eggs?”
“The very same. There was a cluster of them kept below, old and hard as stone. I used to sit there and ask them to hatch.”
Maekar had difficulty fitting such a boy into the brother walking beside him. Baelor had always seemed to know better, even as a child.
“You thought they would?”
“Not really. Why would they come alive for me after four generations had failed to do the same?”
“Then why did you even try?”
