Grace now has to navigate first contact with Erid alone, with no software to translate his words to the Eridians at the space elevator until Mary can run diagnostics on everything. But he’s not panicking! He can still speak (simplified, childish) Standard Equatorial Ran, so this should still be salvageable. Sure, he doesn't sound that great, but they can understand him. Right?
The alien child believes the engineer is its mate, and the ships logs have records of the crimes committed. The situation is dire. Immediate intervention is needed.
