“I bet you fifty bucks I can make you come in under ten minutes.”
It knocks a laugh out of her, she’ll give him that much. She lets the laugh turn into a scoff as she angles her face toward his. “Please. You don’t look like you have fifty dollars to give me when you lose.”
“I’m not going to lose.”
His eyes drop to her mouth, brief as the click of a lighter and every bit as searing. When his eyes return to hers, the air between them tightens.
“No way.”
“Why not?”
“It’s not going to happen.”
His grin flashes. “Give me eight.”
“Oh, sweetheart,” Helena croons, and there’s a condescending curl to the end of it she cannot resist. “I could spend eight minutes explaining why the answer is no, and that would be a far better use of both of our time.”

Summary
A jacket definitely shouldn’t hit the floor that loudly. But she doesn’t take her eyes off of him, their gaze still locked for one suspended breath.
"What was that?"
Mark swoops down before she can and retrieves the weapon from his pocket. “It’s, um, a gun,” he explains...
“I think my outie killed someone with it.”

Summary
“I’m looking for a woman”
“That’s not a service we offer.”
“No, I mean—” Mark leans in, lowering his voice. “A specific woman. She comes here on Saturdays. Red hair, big green eyes. Average height.”
”Is she expecting to see you here?”
“No.”
The man sighs. “Am I going to have to call security?”

Summary
His hands are buried deep in his pockets, and he smells like cologne, something sharper, older, refined. She misses the faint vanilla from Devon’s perfume that lingered wherever she went, the aftershave he used before he could even grow a beard. He’s got a permanent shadow on his jaw, now.
He looks older. An entire different life she doesn’t really know about, and so many things she wants to ask about. Everything she has no right to know. Fill in the blanks, she thinks. Tell me something I don’t know. Tell me anything.

Summary
She saw his silhouette before she heard his footsteps, his feet as bare as hers were now, drawing slowly with his palms held up like she had anywhere to bolt. Hair still as mussed-up as it had been when she’d woken up, suit carelessly askew and black-stained in this light, eyes roving gingerly over her face. Coming to her out of the deepest blue again, as if he meant to stay when she thought she’d rather be alone, as if he wouldn’t leave when she realized she didn’t want him to.

“It’s called al fresco, I think.”
“What is?” he asks, although he’s only half listening.
Her eyes flutter closed, looking up at the ceiling. Her features are cast in gold, like a sculpture he’s never seen in a museum he’s never been to. There’s no warmth in the light, obviously, but heat just… pours, out of her. If someone said she was keeping the plants alive he’d believe them.
“Having sex outdoors,” Helly hums back. “It came to me, last time we were here. When you came in me.”

Summary
“Why are you really here, Mark?” she asks, her tone cool, almost bored, but there's a glint beneath it. Something sharper. Predatory.
He doesn’t answer. His jaw tenses, his fingers twitch restlessly around the cigarette. She watches him like a predator toying with its prey, savoring the unraveling.
“If you hate me so much,” she murmurs, stepping closer, slow, deliberate. “Why did you knock on my door?”___
A couple of months after the events of Cold Harbor, Mark Scout still can't stop thinking about Helena Eagan. -

Summary
"Mark spends his evening not looking at Helena Eagan. He’s slouched in a hard, wooden chair, crammed into the back of a ballet studio, absolutely not paying attention to her. He doesn’t notice the way her hair is twisted out of her face, or the lean curve of her arms, or the vast expanse of bare back above the cut of her leotard."

Summary
Mark Scout wakes up alone in the stairwell. The panic is immediate: all the breath pressed from his lungs, his heart knocking wildly in his chest, something like electricity slithering under his skin. When last he’d been conscious, he had Gemma in his arms, her face pressed to his. Her voice still lingers in his mind: I’m sorry, she keeps repeating, again and again.
And now she’s gone.
--
A week after the events of the S2 finale, Mark Scout attempts to put together the pieces of his life. An added complication? He's still reintegrating, dreaming in Mark S.'s memories, and attempting to ignore the fact that his innie is trying to tell him something.
