Lamitt hadn’t seen the arrow pierce through Ardbert’s side, but she had seen the fall after it had struck flesh, and she had seen the blood, and now—now she sees all of him, lying prone on his cot with a limp smile and the sweat of a man entrenched in a barely-concealed agony. Only a sheet covers his lower half, which is a different kind of agony, one reserved solely for Lamitt. She wonders if he knows; then realizes that no, he doesn’t. He never does.
[Lamitt deals with her unrequited feelings for Ardbert while healing him of a grievous injury. M for mild gore and sexual themes.]
