“You should get some rest,” Seawatt says, makes his way to the empty door without looking at Evbo, but stops all the same, “big day tomorrow, whatever you decide.”
Evbo could just let him leave, could leave himself. Could run to the edge of the world and hide in some library forever.
“Where are you going?”
“Home. I’ll see you in the morning.”
Evbo waits in the temple. He thinks about his friend the master, down beneath on his single chain. He thinks about the discs tucked away in his inventory. He thinks about his boots, about the Old Man, about parkour God.
There’s nothing he can do.
