Summary

Tubbo bites into an apple and waits for the clock to tick to day. The day before that it was a carrot. The day before that it was steak. The day before that it was mushroom stew. The day before that- well, you get the idea. Like all the days before, Ranboo walks into the kitchen right as the clock turns a quarter into daytime and smiles pleasantly when he notices Tubbo leaning against the counter. Strike that, then. Tomorrow he’ll try beetroot soup.

“So then what’d you get?” Tommy interrupts, pulling Tubbo’s focus back into the moment.
Maybe it’s the vulnerability penning him in on either side, the easy way Ranboo slumps into him and trusts Tubbo to hold his weight, or the way Tommy grins and asks question after question like he can’t even imagine being ignored or denied. The deep trust and simple kindness seep into him like an infectious, terminal disease — that’s what he’ll blame it on when his brain is more than a soft mush of warm and alive.
Tubbo smiles bitter-sweet and utters, “I got to keep my memories.”

He wishes he could tell Tommy that he's already helped so much already. He wishes he could understand why they're still clinging together, why Tommy is still reaching for his hand when Tubbo will always, always pull away. He wishes he could stop being such a dead weight, quit pulling Tommy further and further down into a place he knows he won't return from. He wishes he could make Tommy understand that this boat is sinking.
He wishes he could ask for help, and he wishes he could tell Tommy that he doesn't remember how.
